Ermine Street, Huntingdon
Walker Construction
These structural repairs were carried out to the railway bridge abutment wall on Ermine Street in Huntingdon. Our work consisted of a 7m high x 750mm wide retaining wall being poured against the existing brickwork abutment walls of the bridge. The first stage of the process was to install a 1.2m deep piled RC base. Once the base was poured a Doka A-Frame system was used to form the 7m high wall. To meet temporary works criteria, the wall had to be constructed in three lifts due to the excessive pull out forces that would have been exerted on the base if it was to be carried out in one pour. A staircase was also formed to allow network rail access to the railway tracks from the bottom of the abutment wall.
