We are currently constructing a 5,000t bridge in Ravenscraig, Motherwell next to the West coast mainline with new clients Story Contracting. This mammoth bridge once constructed will be lifted by SPMT trailers under the railway next year during a disruptive possession.
Progress by our site team has been excellent, with the abutments being completed in 10 weeks, some 8 weeks ahead of our original target. This is largely due to the careful planning of the formwork systems, lifting up to 15t of formwork in one go. This allowed quick turnaround times, and a high steel panel finish, whilst also working around a splay at the top and overhanging rebar. We are now progressing with the large quantity of falsework required to carry a 1m deep slab of 870m³ concrete.
In addition to the main portal frame we are precasting 18No wing walls weighing up to 70t.
