The Waterside Apartments, Worcester – Phase 2
Wooldridge Contractors
This luxury new apartment building forming part of the regeneration of the Royal Worcester Porcelain Works entered its second phase of works.
Our work included the construction of ground beams, pile caps, columns, walls, and a 2000m2 suspended transfer slab. The podium slab consisted of a central 500m2, 300mm thick Pudlo waterproof internal slab surrounded by a 600mm thick external slab. The ground floor car park columns and walls were constructed off the ground beams and piles caps. Once the vertical elements were complete, Wooldridge carried out the tarmac surfacing of the car park floor. The deck of the podium slab was then propped off this tarmac floor. To meet the allowable bearing loads on the tarmac surface of the car park, double scaffold boards had to be used underneath the props to spread the load through the bearing surface. An external walkway was also completed in Pudlo waterproof concrete. The transfer slab was carried out in a number of pours planned alongside Pudlo waterproofing to meet their best practice guidelines and restrictions.
